So Much Info...So Little Time

I was sitting here going through some stuff--research if you will. And, I think I need a little more time before I write the novel. Maybe a week or so. I will definitely begin writing tomorrow. I want to get the first chapter done; but as far as really getting into the heart of the novel, I've got a lot more research to do. My goal is to start writing 2 hours a day, gradually working my way up to 3 hours, then turning it into an obsession by making it all day. I was thinking about taking pictures of the cul-de-sac that inspired this story and then hanging them on my bulletin board for inspiration. I'm apprehensive though because I don't want people to think I'M the stalker...but I think it'd help. I'm in Chapter 3 of The Everything Guide to Writing a Novel. I would definitely recommend it. It's easy to read, but very useful. I need to set up some interviews with people ASAP that know the cul-de-sac story. Did I mention that even though this novel is fiction (obviously) that it's really a true story? But then again, most fiction stories are quite real indeed. For my main character (the narrator), I was thinking about the name Gwen. What do you think?

  1. I think Gwen is a fine name for a main character. I don't know the story, but would like to read it. but the name Gwen is perfect, for the protagonist of a novel. Not overly common, but yet not obscure. This I think would leave your readers able to easily identify with her character. Not that I'm an expert or anything of the sort. Just my opinion. Good luck

  2. Gwen would be 8 and 9 years old throughout this novel. Bre made the point that Gwen sounds like a woman in her 40s or 50s. I might need to ponder the name a little more.

  4. I happen to like Gwen*cough*.... however if you are wanting something younger, use something younger I like Lucille as well, but I believe you were thinking bout Lucy for your sister's char....In the end it is your novel and your choice. No worries, whatever you decide I'm thinking it's gonna be great.
