My First Blog...Ever.

I will just skip all the boring stuff and get right to the point. I am going to be keeping track of my progress by doing this blog. Starting Monday, August 2, I will begin writing my first novel. It is a coming of age novel set in the mid-to-late '90s. Ever read To Kill a Mockingbird or A Tree Grows in Brooklyn? That is the best way I can describe my book. If you haven't read those books, then shame on you; but my book is similar to those in that its main character is an innocent child watching the problems adults face around her. I haven't decided on a name yet for my young female character, so suggestions would be great. My character (or narrator for this novel) and her family live in a cul-de-sac (thus the title), and are surrounded by friendly neighbors. Except for one. He is the antagonist in this novel. Think of the most disturbed individual you know. Now multiple him by 10 and you've got my character. His name in this book is Looney. Read the book and you'll see why. If I could put a genre on this I'd probably say it has a mixture. First, it's a coming of age novel so you have Bildungsroman (which means a novel about the moral development of the main character); social drama perhaps; and because Looney stalks the families in this novel, I'd also say somewhere between thriller and mystery. That is all I will tell you for now, so stay tuned.

  1. Is there something to most people choosing names with the same first letter? Kate Kingston, Billy Badger, etc. This I cannot stand, so as a suggestion try not to do this unless there is a great reason for it. Do well, my friend.

  2. I plan to stay tuned as long as I can access this page at PCC. And if I can't it might mean I won't be staying tune for long. Anyway, I am proud of you just keep up the good work. By the way why are you asking me about a name? You are the one who all ways names all my things for me. But since you asked my favorite name for a girl is Quin. Is there going to be a cop in the novel???
